“We must take seriously what Putin says”: the warning of the former French ambassador in Moscow

The diplomat calls on the West to consider the Russian leader “a serious enemy” and not to believe the rumors that surround him, in particular about his state of health or his supposed isolation.

Caution. As Monday’s massive Russian strikes in the direction of Ukraine demonstrate, Vladimir Putin appears to want to reinvigorate his “special military operation” and react after the symbolic destruction of the bridge connecting annexed Crimea with the rest of Russian territory. .

“Serious Enemy”

Guest on BFMTV this Tuesday morning, Claude Blanchemaison, former French ambassador to Russia from 2000 to 2003, stresses that it is an “escalation consisting of terrorizing the population” whose objective is “to make them tire of the situation” . More generally, the diplomat assures that the Russian president remains a formidable adversary for Ukraine.

“He is a serious enemy, with his own rationality, but you have to take what he says seriously. That is what Biden does about the tactical nuclear threat and he succeeded. He basically erased the line that the military had drawn between tactical and strategic, it’s the same thing, ‘if you do that you will see the size of the replica’, he explains, assuring that “Putin is quite reactive, he records what comes to him from the western side”.

For Claude Blanchemaison, it is also necessary to put into perspective the various rumors circulating around the Russian leader.

“We buried him many times, we said that he was sick, 25 cancers, that his entourage let him down, that his army is on the run. We must not downplay the enemy’s capabilities, we must not ignore largely false rumours.”

Faced with this situation, the West, in continuing its arms deliveries to the Kyiv regime, must strike a certain balance. “We do tests and each time it can go too far. And one day the reaction can be brutal”, warns the former ambassador.
