War in Ukraine: For General Yakovleff, “Putin lost the war because he lost his army”

For Michel Yakovleff, the Russian attacks on several Ukrainian cities “are useless” since they do not affect the front area, where, on the contrary, the Kyiv army continues to advance.

The Ukrainian military counteroffensive continues at the front. On Thursday, Kyiv announced more than 600 towns recaptured from the Russians last month, as Russian occupation authorities evacuate populations from the Kherson region in the face of the Ukrainian advance.

However, Vladimir Putin’s forces managed to cause significant damage as far west as Ukraine, particularly in kyiv, in sometimes massive shelling. Toutefois, for General Michel Yakovleff, former vice-chef d’État-major du commandement suprême interallié pour les operations de l’Otan, ce sont des dégâts qui n’ont aucun sens militairement parlant, que ne change rien au sort de war”.

“Putin does a lot of damage, he inflicts a lot of pain, but from a simple military point of view, it’s applying fire to an area that is not the combat zone,” he explains on the set of BFMTV.

“Putin’s regime will fall”

According to Michel Yakovleff, the Russian troops would need fire support on the ground. “No, the regime has decided to thoroughly destroy houses, it is useless,” he continues.

“Putin lost the war because he lost his army,” added the general.

“My theory is that the Putin regime is doomed and will fall. He is at the end of the line: all the missiles he fires are useless”, states Michel Yakovleff. According to him, the Kremlin’s strategy shows that they do not believe in his victory. “Otherwise, they would keep their missiles waiting for the NATO attack to engage military targets,” he concludes.
