United States: a farmer and 34 of his cows die from lightning in Colorado

A 51-year-old American man died while feeding his cattle north of Denver, Colorado.

Thunderstorms have claimed new lives in the United States. A farmer and more than 30 cows died this weekend due to lightning in Colorado, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported this Sunday, May 26, transmitted by the Associated Press agency.

The events took place near the town of Rand, almost 130 kilometers northwest of Denver. While feeding his cattle in a field, Mike Morgan, 51, was struck by lightning.

According to the same source, he died instantly, despite the efforts of first responders.

Many animals killed in the county.

A hundred cows were also hit by the same lightning. “All but the 34 stood up,” said George Crocket, a county official.

The incident, which greatly affected the community, could have caused more victims since Mike Morgan’s father-in-law and wife were nearby. They were unharmed according to George Crocket.

The official added that it was the worst lightning strike he had ever experienced in his life. Seven horses also died on his grandfather’s ranch. “I have seen horses killed, although it is usually one at a time,” he lamented.
