The Indian authorities announced on Wednesday, June 18 that have identified the bodies of more than 200 victims of the 171 flight from Air India who crashed six days ago in Ahmedabad, in the northwest of India.
“Thanks to DNA, 202 bodies have been identified,” said one of the state ministers of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, in X.
The Boeing 787 accident, just after taking off the Gatwick London airport, left at least 279 dead, according to the latest official evaluation, the worst aerial disaster in the world since 2014.
A single survivor
The plane, which transported 242 passengers and crew members, crashed Thursday in a residential area of Ahmedabad in the minute that followed its takeoff at 1:39 pm according to Indian civil aviation, this long passenger led 230 passengers: 169 Indians, 53 British members, 7 Portuguese and Canadians and 12 members of the traffic.
A single passenger, sitting near an emergency exit at the front of the plane, miraculously survived the fall of the plane. According to the last evaluation, at least 38 people were killed in the field.
Civil aviation researchers in charge of the survey recovered the two black boxes of the plane, which record the conversations in the cabin and the technical parameters of the flight.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the pilot made an emergency call just after takeoff.
The video images are transmitted after the disaster that shows the plane unable to win altitude and then colliding strongly on the ground in a ball of orange fire.
The Indian Civil Aviation Directorate ordered “as a precaution” one inspection of the other 33 B-787 in service in the Air Fleet of India.
