An American judge ordered the Trump administration on Tuesday, June 17 to resume the passport broadcast with the genre “X” or a gender different from that of birth for transgender people or identifying as non -binary, interrupted since January.
The United States Department of State announced at the end of January that it stopped issuing passports with the genre “X” or a different type of the type of birth of the document, in the application of a decree taken by President Donald Trump from the first day of his mandate.
A Federal Judge of Boston (Northeast) had completed in April to the discriminatory nature of the decree and the policy of issuing passports that follow.
“Rights have probably been violated”
Consequently, he had suspended this change for the benefit of six transgenses or that are defined as non -binary (neither strictly man nor strictly woman).
The judge goes further on Tuesday by extending this suspension to all transgender or non -binary persons affected by policy change.
Therefore, it orders the State Department to resume the issuance of these passports until a sentence on the merits or a opposite decision of the court or a higher jurisdiction.
“The precautionary measure granted by this Court is closely defined to benefit only Americans whose rights have probably been violated by passport delivery policy and that would probably not suffer irreparable damage,” he writes.
For Donald Trump, “there are only two sexes”
Donald Trump signed on January 20, on the day of his inauguration, a decree that ordered his administration to “recognize” the existence of only “two sexes” defined at birth.
“As of today, the official government policy of the United States will be that there are only two sexes, men and women,” said the Republican president.
Thus he returned to a reform introduced under his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden.
The first American passport with the genre “X” had been issued in October 2021 by the State Department, which had specified that the “X” table was reserved for “non -binary, intersex” people and more widely those that are not recognized in the gender criteria offered until then.
During his campaign, Donald Trump promised to end the “transgender delirium” in the United States.
