New images show the wreckage of the Titanic as it has never been seen before: in full 8K quality, the highest resolution available today.
This horizontal resolution of 8000 pixels, twice as sharp as a 4K TV, shows an unprecedented level of detail and color from the ship that sank 110 years ago.
The video was taken by OceanGate Expeditions during its visit this year to the wreck, about 3.8 km below the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean and 740 km off Newfoundland, Canada.
The company conducts expeditions to the wreck with teams of diving experts, historians and research scientists, in addition to civilian “experts” who pay $250,000 for the privilege of seeing the legendary shipwreck live.
The ship has been underwater for 110 years, some 740 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. When it sank there were more than two thousand people on board. About 1500 died.
The wreckage of the Titanic was searched for decades until it was found in 1985 by a team led by Robert Ballard. The story and the shipwreck remain in the popular imagination and led to the production of several books and films, the most famous of which is the 1997 film Titanic. To this day, it is one of the most famous ships in history, with its wreckage illustrating several explorations over the years.
