Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov participated on Tuesday, July 15 in a bilateral meeting in Beijing with President Xi Jinping, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
This interview took place as part of Sergei Lavrov’s participation in a meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCS), the same source said.
The OCS brings together ten countries, including China, Russia, Iran, India and Pakistan. It intends to counteract Western organizations and strengthen cooperation in terms of policy, security or even trade.
Putin soon in China
Among the subjects covered by the two officials were preparing a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin in China during an OCS summit, Moscow reports.
Sergei Lavrov remained this Sunday with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, especially in the Ukrainian archive and “relations with the United States,” according to Moscow.
China, a diplomatic and economic ally of Russia, has never denounced the assault that the latter has been chasing since February 2022 in Ukraine, or called to the withdrawal of Russian troops.
Beijing, however, regularly argues the arrest of the fight, while accusing Western countries of feeding the conflict by putting together the Ukrainian army to repel the Russian forces.
