Images of the floods caused by torrential rains in New York and New Jersey

According to meteorological services, some New York districts received between 38 and 45 millimeters of rain in less than two hours. In New Jersey, the accumulators have reached 150 millimeters locally. These heavy rains have caused floods and large alterations in transport.

Important floods arrived in the New York region and the state of New Jersey on the night from Monday to Tuesday, after torrential rains caused by a stationary storm system.

Meteorological services have registered the accumulation of exceptional rainfall, causing significant transport interruption and several rescue operations.

New Jersey governor, Phil Murphy, said the state of emergency in several counties, asking residents to stay at home. Authorities warned of dangerous traffic conditions and greater risks of sudden floods in densely populated urban areas.

In New York, JFK, Laguardia and Newark airports temporarily suspended the outputs. The New York Metro was also strongly interrupted, with several interrupted lines and flooded stations, especially in Chelsea and southern Manhattan. Mass traffic jams have paralyzed several main arteries of the city.

Several affected states

In New Jersey, emergency services intervened on many occasions to help motorists or residents blocked is isolated by the emergence of water, especially in the Newark region.
