Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Sweden on Wednesday, where the two countries will announce an arms “export” deal, the Swedish government said in a statement on Wednesday.
Volodymyr Zelensky and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will meet in the city of Linköping, headquarters of the Saab defense group, which produces the Gripen fighter jet, weapons systems and submarines.
“At the end of their meeting, Messrs. Kristersson and Zelensky will hold a joint press conference to make an announcement in the area of defense exports,” the government said.
“A strong Ukraine”, a “priority for Sweden”
“A strong and capable Ukraine is a key priority for Sweden, and we will continue to ensure that Ukraine can retaliate against Russia’s aggression,” Ulf Kristersson wrote in X.
Last year, Sweden suspended plans to send its Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine, in response to a request from partner countries to prioritize American F-16s.
Prior to his arrival in Sweden, Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Oslo, Norway, to meet with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
