War in Ukraine: Putin admits “extremely difficult” situation in territories annexed by Russia

The Russian president acknowledged that the situation in the territories of Zaporizhia, Kherson, Lugansk and Donetsk worried the Kremlin.

A few days after acknowledging that the conflict in Ukraine was “long”, Vladimir Putin now admits that the situation is “extremely difficult” in the territories annexed by Russia in Ukraine. In a statement from Monday to Tuesday night, reported and translated by Reuters, the Russian president referred to the four Ukrainian regions in which Moscow held annexation “referendums”: Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Lugansk and Donetsk.

The appearance of “new threats”

“The situation in the Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and in the Kherson and Zapporizhya regions is extremely difficult,” admitted the head of state, in a statement addressed to the Russian security services, which coincides with a public holiday in Russia, in honor of his political police.

“People that [vivent dans ces régions, NDLR], Russian citizens are counting on you and your protection. And their duty is to do everything in their power to ensure their safety and respect for their rights and freedoms,” Putin said.

In his speech, the Russian president also called on the border guard service of the FSB, the Russian intelligence service, to “intensify its work.” “The state border is the most important border to guarantee the security of the country, and it must be kept safe,” he said, warning his services against “the appearance of new threats.”
