Ukraine will receive arms and ammunition every month next year to fight against the Russian invasion, Kiev government defense minister Oleksii Reznikov said Wednesday.
During a special program broadcast by Ukrainian television channels, quoted by Interfax-Ukraine, the person in charge of the defense portfolio said that Ukraine had signed several contracts with other countries for the purchase of weapons in the coming months.
“The US military industry is already functioning. I mean, one of the main themes of any meeting under the ‘Ramstein format’ [denominação sobre os encontros da Defesa ucraniana com outros países] is to implement the capabilities of other countries that support Ukraine in this war,” Reznikov said.
“Orders have already been made, and not only to the United States, but also to Germany, France, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Romania and other countries,” he said.
“I say this plainly, without revealing any secrets. I have signed many contracts to provide ourselves with the necessary weapons and ammunition. With Ukraine,” he added.
The Ukrainian news agency recalls that Lloyd Austin, the United States Secretary of Defense, said in November that at least six countries were announcing more military aid to Ukraine, at the seventh meeting under the “Ramstein format”.
Today, Ukraine’s head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky, travels to the United States for the first visit abroad since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February to get more aid for the defense of Ukraine.
During the visit, United States President Joe Biden is expected to announce the new $2 billion military aid package to Ukraine, including a battery of Patriot missiles, a defense system requested by Kiev. to Washington in recent months.
