In Paris, Ukrainians and Russians celebrate Orthodox Christmas together

Despite the violent conflict that has plagued the country for more than ten months, the two communities ask for peace as soon as possible.

War on everyone’s mind. As Orthodox Christmas is celebrated this Saturday, 150 worshipers gathered for a Friday evening prayer at Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky Cathedral in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. In our chamber, some participants in this emotionally charged mass nevertheless indulge in political commentary.

“All our hearts are with the Ukrainian people, for the people who suffer for nothing, for a cause that one man has decided. This war should not have taken place,” insists Anna, a Russian who has lived in France for 15 years. . .
