The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said Tuesday that the Republican opposition, which accuses him of spending too much money, suffers from “budget dementia” and has exhausted the economic projects of the conservatives.
“I cut the deficit last year by $350 billion [cerca de 323 mil milhões de euros]. And this year the federal deficit has been reduced to more than a billion dollars. [cerca de 925 mil milhões de euros]. Listen to me. It is a fact, ”he said during a memorial service for Martin Luther King, organized by one of the most influential representatives of the African-American community in the United States, the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Referring to his Republican opponents who nevertheless accuse the head of state and the Democrats of spendthrifts, Biden said: “They must be suffering from budget dementia.”
With these statements, the 80-year-old Democrat, who will soon present his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, launched a harsh attack on the economic projects of the opposition, which now leads the US House of Representatives.
Together with the Democratic Senate, the House of Representatives forms the United States Congress.
Referring to the fact that he is available to work with the conservatives, the head of state said he was “disappointed that the first legislation” that they present “helps the rich, the big companies (…) to the detriment of the middle-class taxpayers ”.
Biden refers to a Republican text that seeks to reduce the budget of the US tax administration, which as president of the United States decided to increase in the name of combating tax evasion.
If this text from the Republicans reaches your table, Biden has already promised to veto it.
The ruler also today eliminated another Republican project, which was intended to shake up the federal tax system, replacing the income tax with one on consumption.
“They want to replace lost tax money on millionaires and billionaires with taxes on just about everything in the country. What in God’s name does that mean?”
