Russia announced on Saturday that it had conducted air defense exercises in the Moscow region to protect its critical infrastructure in the event of “air strikes”, amid the conflict with Ukraine.
“Drills were conducted in the Moscow region with personnel from the Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Western Military District to repel airstrikes against key military, industrial and administrative infrastructure,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, Russian soldiers participating in the exercise have been trained in the use of “S-300 anti-aircraft missiles”.
In all, more than 150 soldiers and more than 30 weapons and military equipment participated in these exercises, he said.
However, the Russian Defense did not specify when the exercises were conducted.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to answer a question on Friday whether Russia fears Moscow is a target to attack, referring the question to the Defense Ministry.
In recent months, Russia has seen several attacks blamed on Ukraine, ranging from sabotage to drone strikes and artillery fire in border regions.
