France recalls that neither it nor any of its partners are at war against Russia, this Thursday through the French Foreign Ministry, rejecting comments made by Moscow after the Western decision to send heavy tanks to Kyiv.
“We answer very clearly that we are not at war with Russia and none of our partners are,” Quai d’Orsay spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre told a news conference.
The Kremlin denounced a little earlier this Thursday the “direct involvement” of the West in the conflict with this announced delivery of German and American tanks. This clarification also comes after statements by the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock. “We are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other,” she said.
Heavy tanks from Germany and the United States.
“The delivery of military equipment as part of the self-defense exercise… does not constitute co-belligerence,” the Quai d’Orsay said. “We deny these comments made by the Kremlin.”
Germany agreed to send Leopard 2 heavy tanks to Ukraine, a green light expected in particular by Norway and Poland, which immediately announced they would send such tanks to Kyiv. US President Joe Biden has announced that the US will provide 31 Abrams tanks to Kyiv.
Several western foreign ministries insisted on the defensive character according to them of these tanks, to calm Moscow’s anger.
These renditions and military assistance are part of the “commitment by countries around the world, led by the United States, to help Ukraine defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity… This is not an offensive threat against Russia,” Joe Biden said.
