A 27-year-old man was charged Thursday with involvement in the preparation of a terrorist act and possession of an explosive after he was arrested last Friday after a suspicious package was discovered on the grounds of a Leeds hospital, according to police.
“An Isolated Incident”
The suspect had been arrested at dawn after this finding at Saint James’s Hospital in the north-eastern English city, which led to the establishment of a security device.
He is due to appear in court in a hearing via video link on Friday at Westminster Magistrates Court. Under British law, her indictment limits the details of the charges against her that can be made public.
The investigations “confirmed our initial assessment that this was an isolated incident,” said James Dunkerley, chief of anti-terrorism police in the northeast, in a statement. There is no indication that there is an “increased risk” to the public, he added.
