The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys Shmygal, declared on Tuesday that the country needs about 16,000 million euros for the “rapid” reconstruction of homes and energy infrastructure and to boost the economy.
“Ukraine needs another $17 billion [aproximadamente 16 mil milhões de euros] to recover this year. We are talking about the reconstruction of the energy sector and the construction of houses, demining and economic recovery,” Shmygal said in a government statement, quoted by the Europa Press agency.
The Ukrainian prime minister recalled that Japan has already announced a financial aid package of 5.5 billion dollars (about 5.1 billion euros) to Ukraine for infrastructure reconstruction.
Norway also announced assistance to Ukraine for the reconstruction of the country.
“This kind of solidarity shows a new strategy of supporting Ukraine. All this foreign support will help build a stronger and more stable Ukraine, ”Shmygal stressed, a day after meeting with the director general of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva and her team.
Kristalina Georgieva visited kyiv on Saturday in a gesture to show the IMF’s involvement in Ukraine’s recovery, according to Ukrainian agencies.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, which began on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II, in the 1940s.
