Man who says he was hit by Gwyneth Paltrow while skiing is suing for $300,000

Lawyers for a man who is suing actress Gwyneth Paltrow over an accident on a ski slope in the United States have asked on Thursday that the actress pay about 300,000 euros in compensation for the suffering caused to her client – almost a tenth of the 3 million originally requested.

Terry Sanderson, a 76-year-old retired optometrist, accuses Paltrow of hitting him on a ski slope, leaving him with a brain injury, four broken ribs and emotional damage. The accident happened seven years ago, in 2016, at a luxury resort in the US. The man claims that the actress acted recklessly and left shortly after the accident without leaving any contact.

Paltrow claims it was Sanderson who hit her hard. The actress claims she left her contact details with the ski instructor, who offered to help Sanderson, before she left to join her children. Paltrow also says she briefly thought she was being sexually harassed. And he also countered with a claim for damages, in this case a token dollar plus legal fees.

In a Park City courtroom, the 70-year-old’s lawyers argued that the man should be fairly compensated for a permanent brain injury that changed his personality and affected his enjoyment of life.

“These should have been his golden years,” attorney Lawrence Buhler argued in court. “These are the most valuable years when he can enjoy his retirement and actually do things like travel. He could sit back and complain about being a victim of a brain injury, but no, Terry doesn’t want that, he wants life live to the fullest.” But it has this problem: a large part of it was left on that … ski slope”.

The question is who is shooting against whom. Sanderson claims Gwyneth hit him in the back; the actress said at trial that it was Sanderson who bumped into her. “He hit her and hurt her,” Paltrow’s attorney Stephen Owens said Thursday. “And then he decided to charge three million for the fun of it. That’s not fair. The easiest thing for my client would have been to write a check and be done with it. But what lesson would that teach her children? No, it’s wrong, it’s really wrong. He hurt her and wants money from her.”

The verdict of the jury, consisting of six women and four men, is due this Thursday.
