Brazil’s federal police are conducting searches at the home of former President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday morning after also arresting the former aide to Brazil’s former head of state, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid Barbosa.
Bolsonaro was not the subject of an arrest warrant but is due to testify later this Wednesday, the Globe.
The agents are serving 16 search and seizure warrants and six preventive arrest warrants in Brasília and Rio de Janeiro.
Police are investigating a group suspected of feeding false COVID-19 vaccination data into the systems of the Ministry of Health so that health restrictions imposed in Brazil and the United States to prevent the spread of the virus can be circumvented.
According to TV Globo and Globo News, the vaccination certificates of Jair Bolsonaro himself, his daughter Lara, Mauro Cid Barbosa and his wife and daughter and federal deputy Guttemberg Reis de Oliveira have been falsified.
By 7 a.m. local time, all arrests had been made.
Among the targets of the Brazilian police are military police Max Guilherme and army soldier Sérgio Cordeiro, both guards near Bolsonaro.
At stake are crimes such as violation of health measures, criminal association, insertion of false data into information systems and corruption of minors.
The entry of false data took place between November 2021 and December last year.
The facts are being investigated as part of an investigation opened by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
