A massive fire engulfed part of one of the world’s largest fresh produce markets outside of Paris on Sunday. The fire destroyed a fruit and vegetable warehouse in the Rungis complex, south of the French capital.
The flames spread shortly after noon, officials said, sending a cloud of dark smoke over the capital’s southern suburbs.

One hundred firefighters had the fire under control by mid-afternoon and there were no reports of injuries.
The warehouse, the size of a football field, belonged to the Les Halles Mandar group.
“It’s a shock, but we’re glad there were no injuries,” said owner Shaoul Abramczyk.
“From tomorrow (Monday) and some days we will not be able to fulfill our customers’ orders,” he added.
“When a trader falls victim to a tragedy of this nature, the entire market is hit in the heart,” said Stephane Layani, director of the market at Rungis.
