After 34 years of service, the blue and gray TGVs will disappear

The famous “Atlantic” livery will disappear after more than 30 years of good and loyal service to be replaced by the one that dresses the TGV Inoui.

It is an aesthetic change that is anecdotal for some but historic for the SNCF and for railway fans. specialized media City, Rail and Transport tells us that the legendary blue and metallic gray livery (exterior colors of the train) of certain TGVs will disappear. Information confirmed to BFM Business by SNCF.

These colors first adorned the TGV Atlantique and then the double-decker TGV Duplex which became widespread on the network, particularly to the south-east, before being gradually replaced by white, gray and red trains with the InOui signature except on the Atlantic axis. . The Atlantic livery has been visible on the web for 34 years.

These trains will not disappear, but little by little they will take on the colors of the most recent trains, the TGV Inoui.

This is the second time that a historic livery has disappeared after the 22-year presence of the historic orange livery worn by the first TGV Sud-Est, which later changed to Atlantic blue/grey.

The TGV Atlantiques were manufactured by Alstom between 1988 and 1992. Their interior design was carried out by Roger Tallon, who designed the Corail trains.

Between 2005 and 2009, the interior of these gray and blue trains was renovated, then the interior design was commissioned to the stylist Christian Lacroix.

For the record, according to the always well-informed Twitter account BB2700the TGV Atlantique was originally going to be white, with a blue stripe…

As for the new TGV M that will start running to the southeast at the end of 2024, what color will it be? At the moment in testing in the Czech Republic, it looks immaculate white but it is temporary.

According to our information, the final livery was chosen by the SNCF, the secret is still well guarded, but the chosen shades should be quite clear.
