Tobey Maguire hasn’t played much in the last decade, outside of no way home, but considering his popularity as a young actor, his filmography is still filled with tons of popular titles. four live actions Spiderman thoughtful and daring film a film such as enjoyable, Cider House Rules Yes brothers and sisters, anyone outside of the absolute A+ list would be happy to swap resumes with him. But which film should be preserved for posterity? Well, it depends who you ask.
Maguire took to Reddit to participate in Ask Me Anything yesterday and a user asked him which movie he would like to remember forever. Instead of answering directly, he told a story about Kate Winslet. The two were apparently dating and she called Tropic Thunder her “crown.” At first it seemed like a compliment, but the more he thought about it, the less sure he was. Look at her answer …
I worked for a few hours at Tropic Thunder and met Kate Winslet, who said she was my “crown”. I was flattered at first, then scratched my head wondering if that was a compliment or not. So maybe that?
First, if you haven’t seen tropical thunder, you should do it immediately. It’s one of the craziest, no-holds-barred comedies to come out in the last 20 years. There’s no line he doesn’t want to cross, and Tobey Maguire makes a glamorous appearance as part of a mock trailer alongside Robert Downey Jr, playing a clergyman caught up in an illicit affair. He’s one of many characters played by the character RDJ plays in the film, and while he doesn’t get as much attention as the other, what he does with Maguire is a perfect opener for the film.
Stepping back, however, I think the larger question at the heart of Maguire’s confusion about whether to take offense is an interesting one. If I said, for example, that someone else’s greatest achievement was a small role in a fantasy film, would that be offensive? Tom Cruise also has an insane and totally awesome role in Tropic Thunder. If Kate Winslet called this her coronation, would you be offended? Probably not, because he would still be “obsessed” with the role and would like to do more. But maybe I wouldn’t be happy. tropical thunder certainly not the best example of what both have done in their careers.
Either way, Tobey Maguire is back in front of and behind the camera for Damien Chazelle’s new film. Babylon. the Whip The director’s tumultuous three-hour epic of the rise of Hollywood is probably the craziest movie ride you can do this year. I loved it, but it takes some really weird and daring possibilities that don’t play with everyone to the point where it could end up as the only Best Picture nominee that also received a lot of negative reviews. Maguire serves as executive producer (which is why he handed out booze at a recent screening) and appears in one of the craziest sequences he’s ever seen in a commercial film.
Maguire’s role is as outrageous as his tropical thunder performance. In fact, I like it better, but if I told you it was your greatest achievement, it’s not clear if you would take it as a compliment.
