The AP-HM announces the withdrawal of the “preprint” of the study carried out at the IHU in Marseille on hydroxychloroquine

The public hospitals of Marseille have announced that they are withdrawing the “preprint” study carried out between 2020 and 2021 on the treatment with hydroxychloroquine prescribed to more than 30,000 patients during the health crisis.

The Public Assistance of the Hospitals of Marseille (AP-HM) announced on Friday the withdrawal of the preprint study on hydroxychloroquine carried out between 2020 and 2021 at the IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseille. Didier Raoult, who was its director at the time, co-signed the study pre-published last April and defended the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, as well as the validity of the results obtained through this controversial study.

As this study was a “preprint”, it had not been peer reviewed or published in a scientific journal.

Inside a statement posted on Twitter this Friday, the APHM writes: “Following discussions with the General Directorate and the President of the CME (Commission Médicale d’Établissement), Pr Jean-Christophe Lagier, co-author and head of service in the infectious diseases pole announced today the withdrawal of the preprint of the study on the cohort of 30,423 patients with COVID treated at the IHU Méditerranée Infection in 2020-2021”.

A tribune denounces the prescription of a treatment with hydroxychloroquine

At the end of May, several medical organizations denounced in a column published in the daily The world the publication of this study and the prescription of hydroxychloroquine to more than 30,000 covid-positive patients during the health crisis linked to covid-19, when the treatment was shown to be ineffective.

In this forum, the experts point without naming it, Professor Didier Raoult who had established himself as one of the faces, widely controversial within the scientific world, of the Covid pandemic. Professor Mathieu Molimard, head of the department of medical pharmacology at Bordeaux University Hospital, even considered Saturday in the JDD that this study of an unprecedented scale had everything of a “massive health scandal”.

The doctor sees it as the “biggest wild clinical trial ever conducted, without significant reaction from the authorities.”

“Stop your nonsense,” Didier Raoult responded Tuesday on BFMTV, denying that he had conducted a “wild therapeutic trial” on hydroxychloroquine, arguing that it was merely an “observational study.” He announced that he had “taken justice” for “defamatory comments”.
