Kuleba calls Russian attacks on energy system ‘genocide’

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba on Tuesday called Russia’s attacks on the country’s energy system and other major infrastructure a “partial genocide” against the population.

“Russian terrorists, in addition to fighting our military, launch a war of terror against civilians, which has worsened the humanitarian situation and damaged around 40% of our energy system,” Kuleba wrote on his Twitter account.

This is part of the “genocide against the Ukrainian population,” the minister continued in his message, after the massive attacks on energy facilities denounced on Monday by the Ukrainian authorities and military command.

These attacks caused damage in about 10 regions, seven of which suffered electricity and water cuts, as was the case in kyiv.

Although service has already been restored in the Ukrainian capital, occasional outages are planned to stabilize the operability of the power supply system, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko revealed.

In recent weeks, Russian troops have once again intensified attacks on kyiv, using ‘kamikaze’ drones, targeting energy infrastructure and other civilian targets.

Klitschko said today that due to the latest attacks 350,000 houses in kyiv have been left without electricity and that 80% of them have no water.

Quoted by the newspaper “Kyiv Independent”, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine assured, for its part, that the attacks affected some 450 mobile communication towers in the city, being responsible for the interruptions in the service verified this Monday.

In a previous message, Kuleba indicated that he was working with international partners to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

“We guarantee the supply of equipment by governments and companies from 12 countries: Israel, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, North Macedonia, Poland, Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland and France,” the minister added.

“In total, we are talking about 954 units of energy equipment. The first batches of aid are already in Ukraine, the rest are expected to arrive in the near future. We continue to work to increase the number of partners and support,” he noted. Kuleba said.
