“Calculated conditions”: Israel “a deliberate famine campaign” in Gaza, according to Amnesty International

The NGO published a press release on Monday, August 18 after conducting interviews with 19 Palestinians from Gaza and nursing staff on the site.

Israel takes Gaza a “Deliberate Fammer Campaign,” said Amnesty International in a statement published on Monday, August 18. And this, while the UN and many NGOs continue to warn an imminent famine in the Palestinian territory at war.

This campaign “systematically destroys the health, well -being and social fabric” in Gaza, writes the human rights organization after interviews with 19 Palestinians of Gaza who live in displaced camps and two members of the medical personnel who are dealing with children suffering from malnutrition.

Requested by AFP for a reaction, the foreign affairs of the Hebrew State and the Israeli army did not react immediately.

For the NGO, the testimonies that it has collected confirms that “the deadly combination of hunger and disease is not an unfortunate consequence of Israeli military operations” in Gaza.

She denounces “physical destruction” in Gaza

“It is the intentional result of the plans and policies that Israel has designed and implemented, in the last 22 months, to deliberately inflict the Palestinians of Gaza calculated the living conditions to lead to their physical destruction, which is an integral part of Israel’s current genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza,” she adds.

Amnesty International had accused the Israeli authorities in April of committing a “living genocide” in Gaza, the accusations qualified as “lies without foundation” by the Foreign Ministry of Israel.

The COGAT, the body of the Israeli Ministry of Defense that manages civil affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, estimated on August 12 that “there were no signs of generalized malnutrition phenomenon” in the Gaza Strip. Refute figures of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in deaths due to malnutrition.

From the beginning of the war launched on October 7, 2023 for an unprecedented Hamas attack against the Israeli territory, Israel has inclined 2.4 million Palestinians to Gaza, which presented at the beginning of March a total humanitarian block, then reduced in May and then at the end of July against international critics.

The Palestinian territory, totally dependent on humanitarian aid, is threatened with a “generalized famine”, according to the UN, which requires “floods.”
